What is Skijoring?

Check this out! Skijoring is like the ultimate winter hustle, where you slap on skis and let a horse whip tow you around over jumps, even the horse rider has to complete certain obstacles. It's got its roots in the Norwegian vibe, with 'skikjøring' translating to 'ski driving.' Originally, it was all about cruising through winter terrains, but now it's the ultimate showdown in the competitive sports scene!"

Wait what, thats coming to Fernie?!

The 1st annual Ponies & Planks Skijoring fundraiser will be held at the Fernie Lion's Club Derby grounds. Saturday Feb 17th. 

Come on down for a ripping good time and raise funds for Freedom Equine Association's therapeutic horse back riding & equine assisted learning programs. Removing barriers for all those who can benefit from the magic of working with horses. Skiers, snowboarders, horses, cow boys and gals, jumps, speed and one heck of a good time.

Up to 60 teams of two (one horse rider and one skier or snowboarder) will race the clock through a course with jumps, gates, berms and flying obstacles to claim fastest team in Fernie!

Wait, why is Freyja involved?

Well let me tell you... A big part of Skijoring is the FASHION. The organizers came to us to help aid in getting the word out and giving you all some inspo for when you come down to the grounds.

How can one describe Skijoring fashion?

Think Griz Days, Hot Dog Day, Euro Ski Vibes... anything like this or a combo is well within the assignment folks. And you can truly have fun with it. I know Fernie has a tickle trunk of this gear like this anyway, so this is not a hard assignment. Check out this inspo reel from the Banff Alberta event last month.

But Why Dress Up? #Prizes

For one, you are going to feel a little left out if you dont. Two, PRIZES, Freyja will be on the ground hunting for the best TOP 3 costumes, the winners will be awarded on the stage. Top Prizes is $150 to Freyja! +more prizes.
